Standard time calculator
Enter the observed time, the performance rating and the allowances: it gives you the normal time, the standard time and the pieces per hour.
Normal time
1.069 min
Standard time
1.229 min
Pieces per hour at standard
48.8
Normal time = observed time × (rating ÷ 100). Standard time = normal time × (1 + allowances ÷ 100). The preloaded values are Niebel and Freivalds' drill-press operator example.
How it works
You enter the observed time, the operator's performance rating and the allowance (supplements). The formulas are those of Niebel and Freivalds:
- Normal time = observed time × performance rating ÷ 100. The rating is a judgement by the analyst: 100% is the pace of a qualified operator working at a normal pace.
- Standard time = normal time × (1 + allowance ÷ 100). The allowance covers personal needs, fatigue and unavoidable delays.
- Pieces per hour = 60 ÷ standard time (with the time in minutes).
Example 14.6 from the book is preloaded: 0.971 observed minutes, a 110% pace and a 15% allowance give 1.069 minutes of normal time and 1.229 of standard time. For recording the readings and checking the error of the study there is an observation sheet in Excel.
